Week 7 Lecture

Week 7 Assignment

Write a first draft of your capstone project abstract. The text should be 300 words maximum, and contain the following elements:

  • A description of the overall problem, issue, or lens you want to examine

  • An identification of existing gaps in knowledge, or other areas of worthwhile exploration (in other words, what new knowledge are you providing through the project?)

  • A description of methods and outcomes (see lecture slides for examples)

Post your draft to the Week 7 Google Doc, and as with past assignments, comment on at least two of your peers’ posts. Provide feedback on content, writing style, ideas for development, and so forth.

Once you have received comments on your own abstract, develop a second draft to bring printed out to class on Monday October 11.

Week 8 Assignment

Revise your abstract again based on our conversations and post to the Week 8 Google Doc by 11AM on Friday, October 15.

Use class time on Friday to work on the next step of developing your capstone proposal: your initial project presentations. Half of you will present on October 18 and the other half on October 25.

Your presentation should be 7-8 minutes and include:

  • A title and one-sentence summary of your project

  • Your most up-to-date abstract

  • An explanation of your intended methods, with reference images from existing research or projects you find useful

  • An explanation of your intended outcomes, with reference images from existing research or design projects you find useful

  • An in-progress bibliography, with an explanation of how specific sources will aid your research and/or design

  • A series of images that explain further the content/subject of your research, or that function as precedent examples for your project; these can be grouped together at the end or presented throughout
