PITTED AGAINST THE WILDERNESS WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION

Still from “Shining Girls,” AppleTV, 2022

ASSIGNMENT 1

Familiarize yourself with the library provided in the studio. Select one or more readings/excerpts/songs/poems and create 5 “sketches” that evoke the images of Chicago presented to you in that material. These sketches can be literal, figurative, surreal, narrational, collaged, analog, digital, or hybrid. They are not limited to hand-drawing, but should be quick studies capturing your initial thoughts, feelings, and inspirations while reading/listening.

Keep in mind, this is an exercise in translation and representation. Your images do not need to be architectural in a literal sense, but should evoke the sentiments and/or structure of the texts.

DUE FOR PRESENTATION Monday, January 23 in class (upload to Box before 12PM)
