PETITE RETREAT : DESIGN FOR EARLY FAMILY CARE ARCH 574 / LA 336 Public Health and Urbanism Studio, Spring 2024, CRN 42930 (ARCH) and 35306 (LA) Monday/Wednesday 1:00-5:50PM Temple Buell Hall Room 311, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

DELIVERABLES

Over the course of several weeks you will be producing the following materials for the final review:

  • Written narrative and sketch perspectives

    • Tell a story in prose, poetry, or dramatic form from the viewpoint of an individual visiting your facility. Pair this narrative with 3 sketch perspectives (hand drawn, collage, or both) describing three different spaces in the project.

  • 1” = 2’ detail model

    • Develop a physical model of a space or “chunk” of your design at 1” = 2’ scale. This model is large enough that you can think more realistically about materials, thicknesses, and furniture.

  • Plans and sections

    • Architectural plans of each floor level at 1/16” = 1’

    • One critical cross section at 1/8” = 1’ (minimum)

  • Perspective views

    • Perspectival views of interior and exterior spaces (quantity TBD per project)

  • Final models

    • One 1” = 100’ massing model (3D printing recommended)

    • One 1” = 50’ massing model (clearly show architectural vs. landscape space)

    • One 1” = 2’ detail model (show architectural materials, furniture, etc. with a variety of modeling materials and printed images)

  • Presentation materials

    • Digital slides capturing design process and final proposal

    • One 24x36 printed board with a selection of critical images for pinning up
