PITTED AGAINST THE WILDERNESS WEEKS 7-8: SITE SELECTION AND ANALYSIS

Site Introduction PDF Download

ASSIGNMENT

Select a site from the four options visited and develop a set of site analysis materials, extending ideas from your concept design work. You will produce the following for a pin-up on Monday, March 20:

  • A detailed drafted site plan showing existing site conditions and immediate context

    • One 24x36 sheet with your drawing at scale 1/16” = 1’

    • Example site plans are here and here and here

  • A 24x36 site analysis drawing that continues the themes and graphic strategies of your concept drawing, capturing phenomena from your site that are relevant to your project (like light, shadow, sound, color, texture, movement, etc.). The scale for this image is up to you, and might be unscaled.

  • A site analysis model that continues the themes and construction strategies of one of your concept models. The scale and physical size of this model are up to you, and like the drawing, might be unscaled.

These materials should record your initial observations of the site and set your priorities for your design. What themes and urban issues do you want to address? What major ideas form your concept design can inform how you approach your site (and how you make these drawings and models)?
