Due: Friday September 24, end of class

Using a variety of everyday materials, create three “relief collages” that have three-dimensional qualities. Each one should be 10” x 10” in size, with varying depths depending on the composition.

Manipulate the materials through multiple processes, including the following:

  • Folding

  • Cutting

  • Wetting

  • Burning (be careful)

  • Layering

  • Splicing

  • Tearing

  • Stacking

  • Crushing

  • Scattering

  • Densifying

  • Perforating

Suggested materials include:

  • Magazines and newspapers

  • Other paper products: paper towels, Kleenex, napkins, bath tissue, printer paper

  • Items from a dining hall or kitchen: straws, plasticware, sugar packets, plastic and paper wrappers, cardboard boxes, paper plates

  • Items found outside

  • Pipe cleaners, thread, beads, or other craft store materials

  • Scraps from studio models

  • Anything else you find interesting in terms of color, texture, or material
