LA 280 DESIGN COMMUNICATIONS 1 EXPLODING THE PLAN (20 points)
Plan models, LA 335, Fall 2017
ASSIGNED: Wednesday 9/29
DUE: Friday 10/1 at end of class
Team up with another person in class and trade your plan drawings with them. From their drawing, build a model that “explodes” their plan into three dimensions. Use only the 8.5 x 14 inch sheets provided to you in class.
Pay attention to form, shape, layering, texture, light, and shadow in your models. Use modeling techniques like folding, slicing, layering, perforating (making holes in the paper), and any other manipulations that help translate the 2D drawing into 3D. Remember, you are focusing on formal relationships, so no other materials (besides glue) should be included.
Your model should be 10X10 inches in plan, and at least 3 inches in the vertical direction. Do not refer to the original collage in this exercise—this is about translating the plan into a model.
