PHASE 3: PERSPECTIVES
ASSIGNMENT
Create 2 precise perspective drawings. Study an assigned precedent drawing, and borrow some of the compositional/representational techniques from the precedent to draw 2 speculative perspective drawings for your team’s Library of Things proposal on our project site. Re-visit the feedback of your Sketch Models, and consider how to develop and advance the design ideas initiating from one (or multiple) of your Sketch Models through 2 immersive perspective drawings positioned from a human vantage point. Whenever possible, position the viewpoint of the perspective from within the project’s outdoor or indoor public spaces (as opposed to setting a view from down the street or from a distance).
Incorporate human scale figures to animate the drawing with life, character, and attitude, even if the precedent drawing was devoid of scale figures. Consider shade, shadow, materials, mood, and other aspects of atmospheric identity.
Exterior Perspective (but situated within an immersive space) showing relationship to exterior context and neighborhood surroundings.
Interior Perspective (but not required to be within conditioned space) showing relationships among multiple internal programs and activities.
OBJECTIVES
To analyze the design strategies, drawing techniques, and communicative power of a precedent drawing.
To leverage the precedent drawing techniques towards novel speculation.
To explore the power of perspective drawing in advance of a developed orthographic plans and sections.
To explore inhabitation, atmosphere, materiality, and the animation of life.
REQUIREMENTS
Begin with a discussion in your site analysis group about working together or individually for this (and future) assignment(s), and inform the instructor of your decision.
Both the exterior and interior perspective drawings should use related representational strategies. All Section E2 drawings must incorporate some element of collage in the final drawings—students may determine how and to what extent.
Compose drawings as a 36” x 36” square.
Compose a title for each of the two perspective drawings and include it on the drawing in 12pt font of your choice. Center the title horizontally along the bottom margin of the drawing. Be intentional about your font choice.
